Frequently-Used Applications
Please include here all of your frequently-used applications; remember, you have more than 18000 packages to install with a simple apt-get install command. Only use programs or packages that are officially part of Elive releases (see the sources.list file). Using non-standard packages can cause all sorts of problems due to various dependencies, conflicts, and control of packages.
We at Elive do not recommend installing KDE or GNOME related applications. These applications have the nasty habit of using up a lot of resources required during Elive loading, not to mention that they typically require many additional libraries -- leaving you with a bloated, slow system. If you just HAVE to use KDE or GNOME (in a full window-manager), then why are you using Elive ? ;) Instead, use another distro that is tailored for these environments.
NOTE: Do not use this list to request new applications to be added to Elive. The purpose of this list is for us to get a better idea of the applications our users like and use so we can add eap's for them. Then you don't need to configure Elive to access the application, just install the package and it shows up in your menus! ;)
Note: This list is also used for making the EAP's for e17 (icons); when you read added, it means the icons are added on the list. In other words, if you install the program/package, then you have it automatically available on your menus.
How do I add entries to my e17 menus?
The best way is to request the eap for the application. We at Elive can set up all the necessary parameters and ensure it works correctly.
- So, will I need to wait until the next release to have it?
Not really. You just need to wait for the next update of the package that contains it: elskconf-elive. Check if you have an upgrade available for it and then install the new version. You can use the elive-skel system to update your e17 conf, or just launch:
eliveuser@Elive[~]$ cp -r /etc/skel/.e/e/applications/* $HOME/.e/e/applications
