Elpanel

Important: This page is not finished, it's just a copy-paste of a ticket control of bug-tracking. All this bugs are solved. You are able to modify (clean) this page for a good description of Elpanel, thanks :)

Elpanel is the main center of control on Elive. These are the actual features:

    • background selector: >PASSED. change the background
    • engage manager: >PASSED manage the icons on engage. NOTE: It works well to create and delete an icon, but modifying can be tricky. When modding an eapp, it starts a different eapp editor that was used when creating the eapp. and that one, is BUGGY! Also, it reloads e16 to put the eapp in engage... if firefox is open, it crashes
    • gtk themes: >PASSED. change the theme of GTK

  • keyboard: >PASSED. Set the character set for your keyboard
  • languages: >PASSED: Set the language used by your system
  • date and time: >PASSED Set the date and time :)
  • audio mixer: >PASSED Volume settings for various hard ware and applications
  • root terminal: verify a little if all posible things works good, good permissions, same colors to the normal user, same things to a normal root terminal...: >PASSED: URXVT WORKS BETTER THAN "rxvt-unicode"
  • xkill: >PASSED: But doesn't really kill app sometimes
  • personal configurations upgrader: very important part, launch elpanel from another user, a temporal user created also from the elpanel users manager, verify the upgrades of all, first, verify if is posible to upgrade on X (for example, you can't posible to upgrade e17 configuration on e17, but teorically from e16 you can), verify if is posible to upgrade any program when is launched, if yes, VERY bad, inform. Of course verify if the upgrades launch the program upgraded correctly and with all things working correctly (yes, very bugs has found using elive-skel, wallpaper on e16 lost, channel of chat changed to the user name... etc, the principal problem is because the configurations needs a parse on it, changing name words to the new user words, but some things do not is good to change: >PASSED but SEE: It worked, most the app/config updated was successfuly worked, some scripts were useless because the app wasn't available yet, like "IVMAN". Xchat script upgrade throws this message "Sorry, you need to exit form the graphical system for upgrade this configuration", If it's ok, I suggest to delete this option from the app just not to make any trouble.

IMPORTANT: It CAN upgrade while this APP is running, Maybe it's a good Idea to TAKE THE KEY of apt app (.pid), in this way, updates/dist-upgrades can't be established, and once the app is close, realise it.

  • screensavers configuration: Important after an elive-skel upgrade of the .xscreensaver, verify if all the posibles screensavers in the configurator, clicked on enabled, really exists and works, if exist any to not works, inform for delete from the elive-skel package: >SEE! App Works but I don't understand if it's correct that once run elive-skel upgrade for XScreensaver, all config get lost...
  • remote desktop connection: Verify all type of connections and share, from over internet, also verify if in e16 and e17 works perfectly the mouse and the keyboard after to share your desktop (and the conection are finished) >SEE! Allowing, and Stopping VNC util works fine. Access to another Elive works fine. DIDN'T test Access to a Windoze (don't have one). SEE!: If I stopped the daemon, it freezes the screen for 2 seconds, just like when you apply a new E17 THEME. COMMENTS: Quite slow :-\ but a nice real cool service.

  • Monitor settings: >PASSED: I force a non-supported resolution and used "xconfiguration" from root tty, and worked.
  • Audio configuration: Test if works with and without udev: >SEE: strange, but It worked without asking me the root password at all (forget cache pass issue, I restarted indeed).
  • Printers configuration: >SEE: I added and tested all, but couldn't check wheter it prints or not (I don't have any printer at hand)
  • Daemon's manager: >CHECK: It doesn't appear all daemons running/installed on "Daemon List".
  • Networks configuration: Any wifi card works on this configurator?: >PASSED: Tested with 3 wifi cards too
  • Packages manager: >PASSED: Seems strange, but takes a few numbers of CPU usage more, than If I run it on a root terminal. (45% over 68% approx)
  • Hard disk partitioner: >SEE: Didn't know this app, so, tested lightly...
  • Mounter/umounter: Try if are in the list all diferents posibilities of devices and mounts: >FAILED: Didn't show other users mounted resources, and DIDN'T mount either CDs/DVDs nor Regular mounted resources (umask issue checked)
  • Shared directories: It works over internet?: >SEE: Doesn't create any config in /etc/hosts.allow/.deny <--- Suggest to FIX it
  • Boot manager: >PASSED
  • Users manager: >PASSED
  • Entrance themes selector: A modification are made in entrance package, actually fixed, look if works again, except the taillights theme, the menus of WM selection don't appears: >SEE: only a few themes to test it, but worked fine.
