Elive Introductory Tutorial
You are invited to write, correct, organize, and improve this tutorial.
This page is intended for Elive tutorials and the necessary how-to's for the end-user.
When you begin using Elive, you need to switch your brain into a special mode:
- Forget Windows and the easy ways to work. Windows really is hard; Elive is easier!
- The main ideas behind the creation of Elive: Intuitive, Different, Speed, Beauty.
- Forget all the standard Desktops and Window Managers, Elive doesn't want to be a copy-cat. Elive has new ideas:
Left click on the desktop... there are your applications!
Right click... and you have all the controls to change your windowing behavior.
Even better, choose the Elive Panel to configure anything in your whole system (see Elive Panel below).
Tutorial of Elive
Elive Panel (referred to as 'elpanel')
The elpanel gives you full control to configure anything from "look and feel," to user setup and administration, to system setup.
Click on the elpanel icon (usually the icon on the right side of your e16 engage or your e17 ibar icon grouping -- Elivecd users will have an extra icon to install Elive to the right of this.)
The elpanel will open with three icons representing "look and feel", "user setup and administration", and "system setup".
Look and Feel (LCD display)
Choose between e16 or e17 desktops. Then add, delete, change backgrounds, themes, etc.
User setup and Administration (Tie Guy)
Allows you to configure and edit user names/passwords, etc.
System Setup (Set of Keys)
Allows you to establish connections, install new applications ("packages"), setup printers, adjust audio and video... you get the idea. Anything you need to do to make your work and play more productive and enjoyable can be found here.
