Themes
- The elive theme is beautiful, but I notice that dialog boxes are generally the e17 default theme(not as pretty). Possibly extend the elive theme to these windows as well.
- The elive theme is a beautiful one, and the default is ok but not as good. Maybe include another theme or two with the cd so that people can customize their elive easier. I know that it is easy to get themes from get-e.org but it is an extra step for the users.
- Many more themes need to be supported. Most themes from E16 Themes do not work well.
===mounting external usb==== At present as soon as a usb is inserted, it prompts as to whether it should be unmounted. Also, if the unmounting is done using the filemanager, it sometimes still prompts for unmounting and then gives an error msg that the usb cannot be unmounted. Better synchronization of mounting/unmounting required.
Install
- This could be somthing unique to me but, after deleting all partitions and creating new ones, the elive installer did not set a boot flag on my HD causeing it not to boot. Haveing the installer check for a boot flag and set one if needed would be nice.
* The installer assumes that the computer's ( bios ) time is UTC. It would be nice if the installer asked whether system time is UTC or local time so that it wouldn't be needed to set the UTC property (UTC=yes or UTC=no) in /etc/default/rcS It is not user friendly if Elive screws up the computer's clock.
- LVM support in install, software raid setup would also for provide a more flexible install
Elpanel
- It might be nice to include in the share manager a way run smbpasswd. From my experiance this has to be run in order for windows computers to access the smb share. This might elude some users.
- It would be easier/faster to navigate if a mouse over every icon to find out it's name/description wasn't neccessary.(unless everyone knows what the icons are already)
- The scroll of the name/description takes time from the side, causing me to mouse over and wait 5 seconds to read it. Possibly have the name quickly pop up from the bottom then scroll across.
- The back button should have a backward arrow on it or something to distinguish it from the close button, and the close button could have an x.(having the close button turn red is a nice touch)
- Possibility to move elive panel to change is place on the screen.
================Important utilities===============================
A search function e.g. gnome-search-tool & search integrated with file-manager.
Run dialog in e16 like in e17. ==================================================================
Startup/Shutdown Different messages like Shutting down system or Rebooting system necessary, depending on action chosen. Right now there's only 1 message. More themes/Splash.
Bootsplash...
E16 enable session script only shows more buttons, no actual implementation of reboot/shutdown, just logs out.
More entrance themes. Many from online websites don't work.
Other desktop/WM entries Gnome/kde should show up if installed in session list.
Other
- include the option of installing only base system, no "optional" programs (amsn,...), os the option of choosing witch programs to install. And if you install only the base system include scripts to install "groups" of programs, like "wireless programs/drivers".
- EAP editing is still enduserunfriendly, it means for me works only e_util_think_stable succesfully instead of EAP edit from menu..
- During log in after hdd install selecting e16 or 17 wasn't obvious to me(i logged into e16 several times when i first started using 0.3 because i didn't know where to select e17). Possibly make the selection of e16 or e17 more obvious on the login screen. (the current animation is beautiul though, maybe just put "WM selection" or somthing like that next to the icon you click to chose the window manager)
- In all programme, when you click on a link with protocol like http://xxx , ftp://xxx , smb:// , ... it opens the corespondant programme or if there are no maping it asks the user.
Some suggestions are meant just to reduce initial trial and error for a new elive user
- For USB memory keys - it would be nice instead of automatically launching Thunar if it would show up as an icon somewhere (engage or ibar perhaps) - of course with a really nice picture icon of a USB key and it's name (the one stored on the key)
Network and wireless packages
- This could come under ElPanel, but i would love it Elive was one of the first distro's to simplify the configuration of WPA-PSK and other more enterprise class forms of wireless security. I got WPA supplicant to work "eventually" but a simpler way todo this would be such great feature, and one that I think many distro's are ignoring.
- I've only found one distro that has decent WPA support. I've yet to get the WPA working with Elive. I agree with the poster from above about simplifying the process. Other than that, great distro!
